Drawing Leaves

Start your botanical art journey in black and white!

This class is for beginners or those that want to revisit their drawing skills. You will focus on drawing leaves, using graphite pencils to achieve a realistic rendering of your selected botanical subject.

In this class, you will learn how to draw from life and a photograph, plus learning about mark making and tonal techniques.

I will guide you through the process I use to produce my detailed graphite botanical artworks.

During the session, you will learn

·      to draw using a graphite pencil to achieve different tones

·      how to hold a pencil to achieve different mark making techniques

·      how to photograph your subject and edit it to black and white

·      how to depict your chosen leaf, focusing on how a grid can help you accurately depict the outline of your subject

·      to apply this knowledge and draw your own detailed leaf

 

By the end of this class you will have started a detailed drawing and will take your leaf and drawing home to continue.

What you will get:

·      Three (3) hours of tuition, all materials and paper supplied

·      You will go home with class notes and resources, completed practice activities, your 5 x 7” drawing and your chosen leaf to continue working on.

You will also be able to purchase a basic starter pack after the class, if you wish to continue with your drawing skills.

What to bring:

·      Phone/ tablet with camera

·      Enthusiasm and willingness to give it a go

Drawing Flowers
Enjoy drawing flowers without the distraction of Colour!

This class is a beginner to intermediate drawing class and will focus on observational drawing. You will focus on drawing a chosen flower, using graphite pencils and a paper stump to achieve a realistic rendering of your selected botanical subject. You will learn about photographing your subject, composition, shapes, tone and textures.

I will guide you through the process I use to produce my detailed graphite botanical artworks, in a friendly and supportive environment that is suitable for ongoing beginners and people wanting to revisit their drawing skills.

During the session, you will learn

·      to draw using a graphite pencil to achieve different tones and textures

·      how to use a paper stump to achieve different mark making techniques

·      how to photograph your subject and edit it to black and white

·      how to depict your chosen flower, focusing on how a grid can help you accurately depict the outline of your subject

·      to apply this knowledge and draw your own detailed flower.

Drawing Seedpods

Explore the joy of drawing a seedpod in graphite pencil!

Venue

Hive Studios, Unit 13/10 Depot Street, Banyo QLD.
This purpose built studio is 15 km from the centre of Brisbane City. By car- via the Gateway Motorway, take Exit 112 at the Nudgee Service Centre. By train- walk from Northgate Station (2kms) or Banyo Station (1.2kms) or catch an Uber or taxi from the station (1-2minute drive).

The studio is located in a commercial complex on the corner of Earnshaw Rd and Depot St, near the old Golden Circle Cannery. As you enter the complex, look for the number #13 at the top of the two driveways. There are 3 onsite car parks, but on weekends you can park within the complex in a marked car parking bay (not in front of rollers doors), as it is quiet then.

 

Important Information

This workshop will take place in an upstairs workshop space, which is accessible via a staircase with a landing. If you have any accessibility concerns, please message us, and we will endeavour to book a downstairs space instead.

Cancellation policy: You can cancel or reschedule your workshop booking anytime up to 7 days before the class. Unfortunately, if you cancel within 7 days and we are unable to fill your spot, we will not be able to offer a refund or credit. You’re welcome to pass your ticket onto someone else, just send us a message with their name and contact details, so that we can update the booking. Thanks so much for your understanding and support.
